Diagnostics
We have a wide range of In-house Laboratory Facilities which allows us to provide immediate backup for our healthcare.
Dental Care
Barna Vet clinic has a fully equipped dental station for cats and dogs and other pets such as rabbits and guinea pigs. Dental descaling, extractions and dental polishing are carried out here while the pet is under anaesthetic.
Blood Sampling
Pets make much less of a fuss about this than we would. The information we can glean from our in-house fully equipped laboratory is significant. Results for many tests are guaranteed within 24 hours or, on a rare occasion, we may need to send a blood sample to an external laboratory for specialised analysis or a very specific test which may take a little longer.
Urine Analysis
A lot of important information can be gleamed from a urine sample and it's a quick and easy way to get an idea about an animals' general health.
Microscopy
We use the microscope for a variety of different reasons such as searching for urinary crystals - the beginning of bladder stones and also looking for mites in a skin scrape sample.
X-ray
We have our own in-house X-ray machine and facilities when required. Typical situations for taking X-rays would be of a suspected internal injury, a broken leg or in the vomiting puppy where the owner has noticed a child's toy missing! It is quite astounding what dogs manage to swallow!
Ultrasound Imaging
Like in humans we use this for scanning for pregnancy in pets. Although it is not possible to tell the exact number of pups or kittens to expect (they usually all lie on top of each other which make it difficult to count) we can show you heartbeats and developing skeletons. It is a good way to confirm pregnancy in the early stages. We also use ultrasonography to visualise internal organs when we suspect there may be a problem for example, bladder stones. It is a good way of letting us know what to expect before surgery.
